I'm a Computer Science undergraduate in my final year studying at Reading University. I like music, movies, photography, reading and if I can ever get around to it, writing. Also a fan of horror, sci-fi and fantasy so there's plenty of re/blogging on those areas.
I write gig/event reviews at From The Pit

Many tweaks to this and web presence in general in the pipeline... when I get around to it.

“If you can’t handle me at my worst, then you sure as hell can’t handle me at my best.”
- Marilyn Monroe
I enjoy reflecting on quotes and different ideas. The above is the key part of a quote I’ve come across numerous times and quite often in people’s quotes section on Facebook. The page for it on Facebook has over 2.8million Likes.
Attributed to Marilyn Monroe, the full quote is “I’m selfish, impatient and a little insecure. I make mistakes, I am out of control, and at times hard to handle. But if you can’t handle me at my worst, you sure as hell don’t deserve me at my best”.
I quite like it because the message applies to everyone. However, for me, the crux of it is that while we may all have our flaws, it’s the responsibility of each and every one of us to do what we can to overcome them and mitigate their impact - because if our best is so outweighed by our worst, then however good our best might be, it may not be worth having to handle our worst.

Last night I got back to doing something which, regretfullly, I’ve not done in ages. Something somehow always got in the way. Maybe I’ve managed to get into the right mindset again.
I’m reading for pleasure again. If I get into the routine of reading a bit every night for a bit before bed then I can keep this up.
Maybe it’s the effect of living in the suburbs (it’s so quiet!).
“This isn’t hell. It’s the ‘burbs. Close enough.”
Spike, in Angel s5e17: Underneath
I enjoy vampire fiction in general but none of that Twilight glittering vampires nonsense please! A while ago I set myself the challenge of reading, in order, all 10 of Anne Rice’s Vampire Chronicles. It’s difficult because if I stop for long enough in the middle of a book I must start that book all over again. Starting with book 2, The Vampire Lestat, this time. The first I’ve read once entirely and a few times partially. Besides, I like the second book more than the first anyway.
Speaking of which, there’ve been two film portrayals of Lestat de Lioncourt (that I know of), Tom Cruise in Interview of the Vampire and Stuart Townsend in Queen of the Damned. I liked Townsend’s portrayal more but there’s rumoured (for about two years now) to be a third: this time by Robert Downey Jr of Iron Man and Sherlock Holmes fame. I’m really looking forward to it because from what I’ve seen of the actor, I think he could pull it off.
“Why do you insist on utilizing this primitive linguistic communication?”
- Borg Queen (Star Trek: First Contact, 1996)
Speech is so slow. :p It would be awesome to be able to have augmentations for faster communication. Maybe it would allow thinking about several things at once (a multi-threaded consciousness?) or, most appealing to me, a better memory.
Interviewer: We touched on earlier about the opposing forces you faced when in school; do you smile to yourself knowing they may be seeing your success?
Emilie Autumn: I smile to myself knowing that they may be dead.
Hehehe… There were/are some horrible people who deserve all misfortune that comes to them. Revenge might be sweet but success in spite of hurdles is sweeter still. Also, I wouldn’t want anything to do with people like that. Anyway, more important things than vengeance to devote time and energy to!
Client: Hey, just one final question before I send the deposit. Do you use a PC or a MAC?
Me: I use a MAC.
Client: That is a problem. Do you have access to a PC? I am not a supporter of Apple products.
Me: No, I don’t have access to a PC, but this will have little to no effect on the work…
I love this blog! :p
