all the world's a stage...

I'm a Computer Science undergraduate in my final year studying at Reading University. I like music, movies, photography, reading and if I can ever get around to it, writing. Also a fan of horror, sci-fi and fantasy so there's plenty of re/blogging on those areas.

I write gig/event reviews at From The Pit

I still haven’t seen the Series 2 finale of Sherlock. I think maybe subconsciously I’m trying to shorten the time I have to wait for Series 3. If I left it long enough then the previous two episodes would no longer be fresh in my mind so I’d have to watch Series 2 right from the beginning.

But if I did that then I may as well start right from the beginning from 1x01 and have a Sherlock Marathon! Oh woe is me! >:p

And while I’m at it, I’ll probably want to go back and rewatch Luther too.

<Mini-rant incoming…>

Speaking of a Sherlock marathon, the Sherlock - Series 1 and 2 Box Set is available to pre-order on Amazon… but I think I’ll wait for the Series 1, 2 and 3 Box Set.

Is it just me or does anyone else find it just a little annoying how for a second series and series thereafter they’ll release a standalone series box set (like Sherlock - Series 2 on DVD, also available to pre-order) and also a combined box set of all the series to date? It makes me want to wait until the show has stopped running and then get a combined all-series box set because it’s cheaper that way.

Red cars are cool.

In Doctor Who they seem to have a thing for shiny red cars, at least in Series 6. Including the latest occurrence, off the top of my head I know of three of them. Did I miss any?

Edit:

Turns out this show’s infatuation with red cars can be traced right back to the start of Eleven’s adventures. Does Moffat or whoever is responsible for sourcing the vehicles seen on the show have thing for red cars? Thanks to @aerliss for pointing out Rory’s red Mini to me on Twitter.

Me and my sister, who are (obviously) HUGE Whovians, went to a cocktail party tonight. Both of us have TARDIS iPhone cases.

While at the party, we were introduced to our father’s partner’s son (who, sadly, is closer in age with my sister).

As we talked with him, he asked “Is that a police box on your phone?”. Expecting to (as usual) have to explain why we have Police Public Call Boxes on our phones, he surprised us by finishing “I love Doctor Who!”.

I should be studying but Tumblr is so much more interesting, lol. FAIL. The day that works as a pick up line for me is probably the day I meet “the one”. I’m not holding my breath. ><

Matt Smith wants 3-D Doctor Who

The 28-year-old actor - who plays the titular Time Lord - is very excited about the celebration of the show which will take place in November 2013 and insists he will definitely be a part of it.

And he thinks the sci-fi format of the series would be perfect for 3-D technology which could be used for a one-off special.

He told BANG Showbiz: “I love making ‘Doctor Who’ and I get to be part of that 50th year which they’ll do something mental for. You know it will be brilliant.

“I’m interested in all the 3-D stuff. If it could be filmed for 3-D TV that would be fun, especially with ‘Doctor Who’, but it’s very expensive. I don’t know how they’d do it.”

Ooh…

Spoilers! Don’t read this if you’ve not seen the episode…

After River brings The Doctor back to life after he dies, Amy tells her that apparently River used up all her remaining regenerations to do so. I’ve been thinking about how Time-Lords are typically limited to 12 regenerations.

Questions:

  1. How many regenerations did she have left? Did she start with a full dozen or with less because she’s not full Time-Lord?
  2. Were they literally transferred to the Doctor (perhaps minus one used in actually bringing him back) or simply all expended in the act.

Speculation:

It’s been a long established rule that Time Lords are usually limited to 12 regenerations. That is, until this rule appeared to be fudged by Russell T Davies in Sarah Jane Adventures episode “Death of the Doctor” where the Doctor appears to indicate otherwise to Clyde - although this is later suggested to be a joke. But anyway, rule number 1: the Doctor lies.

I think this might be Moffat setting the Doctor up with more regenerations while still adhering to the 12-regeneration limit.

MOFFAT!!!

update: We just found out that for some reason this video is region blocked which is dumb unfortunate. We’ll talk to our friends at Anglophenia and try to get it unblocked.

Well, at least it’s only a 21 second clip so you wouldn’t miss much. And you could easily work out what Matt Smith says from the text anyway. Just a thought though: content like these sorts of clips on the BBC UK sites (including Doctor Who) are more often than not available worldwide while short clips like this on a BBC America site can’t be viewed by people in the UK.

oooh… the trailer for the new Doctor Who :D

The New Doctor Who Fall 2011 Trailer

The video we’ve all been waiting for… an exclusive trailer of the remaining six episodes of the current series!

His time is running out.

This is where it begins.

The mysterious child trapped in the spacesuit. The pregnancy of Amy Pond. The revelation of who River Song is and where she comes from. Some secrets have been revealed while others remain unlocked.

What will happen to Melody Pond?

What is Madame Korvarian’s plan?

And does the Doctor really die?

Coming ***August 27th*** to BBC America!

I was on Facebook and something catches my eye. I look to my right and I see an advert for an “officially licensed Doctor Who T-Shirt”. It’s got David Tennant on it…

I’ve just realised something. Matt Smith’s Doctor is my favourite of the lot (of the new Doctors anyway). I don’t mean their acting (wonderful in both cases) but rather the characterisation and the how the characters are written.

Really looking forward to the Christmas special… oh, and also for the fourth installment of the adventure games, which feature one of my favourite DW creatures: the Vashta Nerada, who are up there with the Weeping Angels. Obviously I’m a fan of Steven Moffat.

Craig, the planet’s about to burn! For god’s sake, KISS THE GIRL!
